Whatley Manor turns 21

Whatley Manor is coming of age and has called on friends new and old to curate a series of events and experiences to celebrate our 21st birthday.

Officially opening our doors on 1st July 2003, the property dates back to the 1920s, when it was part of the Twatley Farm estate. Current owners, the Landolt family, have been custodians of Whatley Manor since 2000, when the hotel was completely restored, including a redesign of the gardens back to their original ‘Arts & Crafts’ style, adding the Aquarias Spa and converting the stables into a private events space with a cinema.

Mr Christian Landolt says, “Whatley Manor is celebrating the 21st anniversary of the day it first opened, 1st July 2003. Time to celebrate Whatley’s coming of age. Reflecting on these past years, I am proud of all our achievements after what had been a chaotic and difficult refurbishment. First and foremost, I wish to thank all the many members of staff, past and present, who have contributed to our successes over the years. I also wish to convey my sincere thanks to our many wonderful guests for your trust and loyalty during these past two decades. This milestone does by no means suggests we are resting on our laurels, far from it, as this year we have planned many wonderful events to mark the moment.

“Our sustainability journey continues, and we are dedicated to decarbonising the business more than ever, with the exciting news that we achieved Net Negative Emissions status in February this year. The first hotel in the UK to do so. Our silver accreditation with Earthcheck is also confirmed for the third year running, aiming now for gold by 2026.

“Finally, I am pleased to announce that our Aquarias Spa will be refreshed and modernised, with work due to start in January 2025. I hope many will come and support our fun events, not least to help us paint our new mural dedicated to the bees with its creator, Matt Willey.”

Here’s what to expect at Whatley Manor during this very special year:

A New Permanent Fixture

International mural artist, Matt Willey, is creating a captivating bee mural at the hotel, symbolising the profound connection between people and planet. Part of Matt’s ‘The Good of the Hive’ project, which involves painting 50,000 honeybees in murals around the world, the mural reaffirms Whatley Manor’s dedication to operating as a regenerative hotel. In early August, guests of Whatley Manor and the local community have the opportunity to meet Matt and be part of his call to preserve nature and our planet.

Party at the Manor

Nothing says turning 21 like enlisting the help of an internationally acclaimed music producer and DJ, and Whatley Manor will be pumping up the volume with the help of Besford on 8th and 9th November. The DJ will be in house to play his signature sounds, incorporating primal percussion and deep spiritual vocals, while guests sip on a special anniversary cocktail created specially for the occasion.
